Coperta “F*ck Feelings”

Durata: 12h 44m

Heartbroken? Horrible boss? Confidence crisis? Rubenesque body? Anxious? Lonely? The solution is to find out what’s bothering you and change it, right? Sorry lady. WRONG. You aren’t going to suddenly start loving yourself. You aren’t going to just become the Best Version of Yourself. You can’t stop your dad drinking, or your rubbish boyfriend from breaking up with you. Fact is, there are some things you just can’t change, and will become miserable trying. Instead, Harvard-educated psychiatrist of 30 years Michael Bennett and his comedian daughter, Sarah, show you how to: Stop overthinking. Make smarter decisions so you can manage whatever life throws at you. Stick to your values when good luck is nowhere to be found. Come away from bad situations with your self-respect and sanity intact. They may not promise lifelong happiness, but they do guarantee strength, pride, and a sense of humour. The doctor in Dr. Lastname is Dr. Michael I. Bennett (Harvard University '66, Harvard Medical School '70), a board-certified psychiatrist. While he’s worked in every aspect of his field, from hospital administration to managed care, his major interest is in his private practice which he's been running for almost 30 years. A distinguished fellow in the American Psychiatric Association, Dr. Bennett has also spent years as a member of the Massachusetts Psychiatric Society, serving as president in 2004-2005. He's the author of The Concise Guide to Managing Behavioral Health Care Within a Managed Care Environment, which, while informative, reads like a VCR manual. The writer half of Dr. Lastname is his daughter, Sarah Bennett. Just as Dr. Bennett has worked in every aspect of psychiatry, Sarah’s written for magazines (Women’s Wear Daily, Glamour UK), the internet (about.com, New York Magazine’s Vulture blog, Black Balloon Publishing's Airship Daily blog, and, of course, fxckfeelings.com), television (MTV), and books (an essay in the 2007 anthology Damage Control, edited by the novelist Emma Forrest). She’s spent two years writing sketch comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in New York, and now writes for ucbcomedy.com. With Dr. Bennett’s decades of experience as a therapist and his daughter’s experience writing comedy and, well, being his daughter, they’ve successfully kept fxckfeelings.com going for over two years, collaborating on over 400 posts and 800 cases. Dr. Bennett has the expertise, but Ms. Bennett is the only one able to translate his sense of humour; he draws from his three decades of private practice, and she draws the humour out of his doctor-speak. • Dr Michael Bennett is hyper-qualified to write self-help: he’s Harvard Medical School-educated, is a board-certified psychiatrist, and has been running his own private practice for the last 30 years.• Author Jon Ronson (The Psychopath Test, Riverhead) and actress Emma Watson are fans of Dr. Lastname (Dr. Michael Bennett and Sarah Bennett’s online alias).• The world’s first (probably) father/daughter/shrink/comedian writing team have spent the past three years running fxckfeelings.com, advising a loyal, international audience hungry for (profanity-laden) wisdom that doesn't coddle, but does help.• In F*CK FEELINGS, the method Dr. Bennett has been espousing for decades to paying customers in his practice is finally becoming available to readers, but translated through a comedy lens by Michael’s daughter who has endured psych-speak throughout her life.• F*CK FEELINGS’ approach is utterly realistic and practical, while being totally hilarious.• Michael’s daughter Sarah is an experienced writer, having written for Glamour UK, About.com, Women’s Wear Daily, New York Magazine’s Vulture blog, MTV.• Sarah has a comedy background, and spent two years writing sketch comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre New York, and now writes for ucbcomedy.com• Sarah is brilliantly well-connected to high-profile podcasters such as Julie Klausner, Paul Gilmartin and Marc Maron, and influential names in the blogging community from news sites like Slate.com to comedy blogs like Splitsider.com to the literary community around vol1brooklyn.com, as well as Vulture.com, where she herself occasionally blogs, and Black Balloon Publishing's Airship blog, where she's a staff writer. She will be reaching out to these contacts to promote the book.
